The elephant nursery in Cologne continues to grow. The youngest member of the Asian herd is named Khin Yadanar Min, and he is the fourth baby in just three years. As one would expect, the elephant care team headed by Werner Nass has their hands full, but they aren't the only ones. The "bottle-baby" Marlar has all of her aunts on duty as well. For just as they should in a well-functioning herd, all of the elephant cows help to raise the offspring in Cologne.
In the South America house, Susanne Schmitz has already had dozens of sleepless nights. Because the Capuchin female Ibama rejected her first baby, Schmitz has taken over as surrogate mother. Little Nadua needs her bottle up to twelve times a day – and somehow they still have to find the time to carefully introduce her to the group, a highly endangered species of monkey.
Right next door, a huge construction site is being hurried through its final stages. Hippodom is the name of the new animal house for hippos, Nile crocodiles and antelopes – an African river landscape in the middle of Cologne. The animals can't be spared all the stress of moving and preparations are in high gear. Monika Assenmacher has to teach the hippos, Albert, Kawango and others, to voluntarily walk in to the narrow transport crates.
