Alaska’s Wild West – Islands on the Edge of Time

Hardly any region on earth is as remote and scenically as spectacular as the far west of Alaska. On lonely islands, people live with their eyes on the future, for in the Bering Strait runs not only the border to Russia but also the daylight line.  Under the ice off the coast of the former gold-mining town of Nome, daring men search for the last treasures of the sea – gold dust and king crabs. The wildlife trooper floats in from the air and the patrolman battles dog excrement and bald eagles. Life is special in Alaska’s wild west.
