They fight democratic Germany, want another republic. Extremists from the left and the right challenge the rule of law. And while some are concerned with an allegedly pure race and Greater German fantasies, others demand classless societies and the destruction of nation states. And the extremists on the left and the right will use almost any means. Their violence can affect anyone.

We talked to right-wing and left-wing extremists and asked them about their motives and their attitude to our state and to violence. What drives them, how far are they willing to go for their goals? We were able to gain intimate insights into the strategies of the NPD and the Young Nationalists and spoke with representatives of the Identitarians. The activists in the Hambach Forest also answered our questions, as did spokespersons for the Marxist Leninist Party of Germany. The conclusion: both sides are even proud to stand in opposition to our basic democratic order and in some cases also consider the use of violence to realise their goals to be legitimate.
