Tourists and Blankenes residents agree on one thing: they love Monika Lühmann’s tea room. Tourists because of the pastries and Blankenesers because of the landlady, whom they also call the “Johanna of Süllberg”. Property speculators, on the other hand, would have liked to erase the name Lühmann forever from any chronicle of Hamburg’s picturesque posh suburb. When Monika Lühmann senses the destruction of the milieu out of sheer greed for profit, she is at her best and regularly screws up the speculators’ business. But now everyone is in an uproar: Monika Lühmann has announced that she is giving up her café! Neither tourists nor Blankenesers can imagine how that will work. What will become of the scones? What about the speculators? But Monika Lühmann is as principled as ever: no one is irreplaceable and one should leave when it is best. Besides, a few candidates have the confidence to succeed her. But do they really know what big shoes they will fill?
